The Plant Store will re-open for sales the week of May 13th, 2024 for local pickup

  • Please see the Using the Plant Library  page  for some tips on how to make the most of the information here to select species for creating a healthy native plant community suited to the conditions of your site.
  • I'm currently working on shifting the store part of this site over to more complex software that will allow for filtering by multiple plant traits and making wish lists of species you would like to order, so please bear with me when it comes to announcing the exact species offerings for 2024 (there will be lots, including some species not previously offered).

Eutrochium maculatum, Spotted Joe-Pye weed

Eutrochium maculatum

Spotted Joe-Pye weed

  • Full sun is their preference but they wil tolerate light shade.
  • Thrices in high moisture settings but gets by just fine in average garden settings.
  • The more moisture available the taller these will grow, ranging from 4' in dryer spaces to over 8' in high moisture settings. Spacing also varies between 2' and 4'
  • Garden, meadow and wet meadow settings

Big, bold and beautiful. Joe-Pye-Weed fill up lots of space and provide nectar for many, many species of pollinators.

These love moist locations but will also grow in average garden conditions.

Heights range between 3’-6” and 6’ depending on moisture levels and the height of surrounding species. Be sure to allocate at least a 3’ wide space for each of these to grow up to fill.

These definitely love sunshine, and will need a full sun location to put on their best show of blooms, which appear in late August and continue into September in the Ottawa area.

Species that were not sown / aren't being sown for 2023 are marked with an *
Species that are native to this continent, but not historically native to Ontario are marked with a ~
While it rarely comes up, I do reserve the right to limit plant quantities, mostly to help ensure that as many native plant gardens as possible become a reality
